NMIS-CATX 06291 Measuring the impact of near net shape manufacturing processing on CO2 emissions
Bucconi, Marco (Principal Investigator) Karkasinas, Aineias (Principal Investigator) Parameswaran, Elangovan (Co-investigator) Liu, Jun (Co-investigator)
Assessment of the impact of two near net shape manufacturing processes in the production of CO2 emissions for a demonstrator part
20-Jan-2022 - 31-Jan-2023
AFRC-CATP-05999 SPF Extend the toolkit offering
Bucconi, Marco (Principal Investigator) Parameswaran, Elangovan (Co-investigator) Fyvie, David (Co-investigator) Edridge, Innes (Co-investigator) Liu, Jun (Co-investigator) Soundattikar, Yogesh (Co-investigator)
Development of internal capabilities focuses on superplastic forming, targeting:
Reduction of alpha case formation during the process
Recovery of argon gas
Development of a hybrid SPF process
25-Jan-2022 - 31-Jan-2023
AFRC-CORE-1459 Preliminary Investigation of Tailored Blanks for Aerospace Applications
Bucconi, Marco (Principal Investigator) Gonzalez, Diego (Co-investigator) Parameswaran, Elangovan (Co-investigator) Liu, Jun (Co-investigator)
Demonstration of the fabrication process for lightweight aerospace components utilising tailored blanks. The viability of this approach was exhibited for both aluminium parts via stretch-forming and titanium parts through superplastic forming. This was achieved through a combination of finite element modelling and practical experimentation.

11-Jan-2019 - 26-Jan-2022
AFRC CORD 1425 - Track cans method of manufacture
Bucconi, Marco (Principal Investigator) Parameswaran, Elangovan (Co-investigator)
Evaluation of various manufacturing techniques and subsequent identification of the most suitable approach for producing an airfract track can
14-Jan-2019 - 06-Jan-2020
AFRC-CRAD-1302 Carruthers Wheel: Very Low Head Hydro-Electricity
Sancho, Alexander (Co-investigator) Parameswaran, Elangovan (Principal Investigator) Elsayed, Ahmed (Co-investigator) Marini, Daniele (Co-investigator)
The design of a new waterwheel to be used for power generation in developing countries was developed. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models of the waterwheel were created and used to investigate its operating principle. The models were also used to validate experimental measurements taken from a prototype of the wheel. It was observed that the efficiency of the proposed system is significantly higher than that of more traditional designs.
